Australia vs Ireland Highlights ICC T20 World Cup 2022
Wow! Australia wins an important victory over Ireland at the Gabba after bowling well with the new ball. It was only thanks to Lorcan Tucker’s brilliance that they weren’t bowled out today – he managed an innings of 71 runs! Mitchell Starc also provided excellent bowling, taking two wickets off just one over! In addition, Adam Zampa picked up two man-of-the-match awards.
Mathew Wade led the team during the second innings of play when Aaron Finch was sidelined from an injury he sustained during the first inning. Before this, Finch played a great captain’s knock with 63 runs out of 44 balls, aided by Mitchell Marsh 28(22) and Marcus Stoinis 35(25). Barry McCarthy picked up 3 wickets, giving him 29 runs against Ireland, providing crucial contributions at pivotal moments. Joshua Little also grabbed 2 wickets over 4 games.
Australia won by 42 runs:
Ireland started badly, losing five wickets in the first four overs. They’ve since managed to come back and score 137 runs but failed at finding success from both ends when playing. Lorcan Tucker played brilliantly- scoring 71 runs off just 48 balls with nine boundaries and one big six. He only had a 43-run partnership with Delaney before he was dismissed later in the game, leaving him without much company for most of it. Aussie bowler did their jobs well – Maxiiliam and Starc picking up two each in their first over. At the same time, Adam Zampa took 2 for 19 when it mattered most, which made it an easy game for them to win, despite Ireland’s efforts against them, because they never let up no matter what happened!
The Irish Wicket-keeper Batsman scored 43 runs alongside Gareth Delany and continued chipping away at their momentum. What mattered most to Ireland were other teams’ NRRs, so Tucker managed to score the single needed to pass 104 runs! Tucker had scored a boundary early in the game against Australian bowler Steve Starc after getting him out twice. When Starc went back out for another over, Tucker proceeded to play consecutive fours–focusing on powerful shots along the ground and inside edges–in which he once again exceeded his previous boundaries by scoring two big hits before taking three consecutive singles later on with Tom Curran bowling his 17th over. A formidable total of 62/1 from 20 overs quickly ensured that Ireland would win; they didn’t even bother finishing what they started because no result would have changed anything now—not one or two more wickets.
Australia vs. Ireland highlights below:
1st over: Ireland 7-0
Hazlewood gets one to the hoop with a perfect seam, Balbirnie aims big yahoo and misses, and the ball clips the bails as it goes past, but they remain unmoved! The sheer luck of. Could you not say it? Stirling sets his stall out in grand style by pulling Hazlewood for six! Fantastic stuff.

4th over: Ireland 25-5
Tucker and Delany did not score any runs at this stage.
5th over: Ireland 35-5
who is at bat now? Tuckers there, and so’s Giggles. Cumb’n keeps chugging away after the Sizzling Spectacular slaughter. Tuckers walk down the wicket and ping him through Old Lady Leg. Ain’t no thang. What a shot that is amidst all this mayhem. Tuckers nudge two to fine leg, and he snags three off a hack through mid-on. Ten off the over, and NO ONE DIES GOT OUT!
6th over: Ireland 49-5
Ireland will not go down without a fight. Sixteen came off the over from Starc. Tucker looked good, delivering a flick to mid-wicket and an imperious pull off the next delivery for consecutive boundaries! Delaney joined in, too, hitting four through the third base with an open-face drive. It was quite a welcome sight for English fans fearing NRR.
7th over: Ireland 57-5
Delaney rocks back and carves Maxwell for four runs. Both of these batters have done well after the Delange of wickets.
8th over: Ireland 62-5
Aaron Finch hobbles off the field after aggravating an injury during batting. Let’s see who’ll take his place for Australia, and it seems to be Wade behind the wickets! Five runs off of Hazlewood’s return.
9th over: Ireland 67-5
Adam Zampa attacks from the beginning of the game and sends down an over worth only five runs.
10th over: Ireland 73-6
Tucker had run 25 times, while Adair only ran 5 times.
11th over: Ireland 78-6
Zampa continues, but Adair cuts him in the gap behind point for four. Two off the over. Mitchell Starc is coming back. Will he be able to finish things quickly and maybe provide some good news for his teammates’ morale?
12th over: Ireland 90-6
Lorcan Tucker has batted well; Starc is pulling down, and Tucker slams him straight in front of the square. He sees the ball early despite the fast pace; another beautiful stroke! His body leaning back, he hits Patterson over extra cover for four – what a shot! He is flaying his bat around now – two more coming off that. Drop! Pat Cummins is furious with himself – how critical would this prove to be? The top edge from Tucker flies high into Brisbane skies and falls straight through Pat Cummins’ open palms. Some tense moments there.
13th over: Ireland 95-7
Tucker had reached 40 runs, and Hand had only made it to 1
14th over: Ireland 102-7
Ireland scored seven off the over. They need 78 runs off 36 balls left in the game.
15th over: Ireland 106-8
Adam Zampa completes his assignment and has been bowling very well, 2-19 off four overs. Zampa snatches victory from the jaws of defeat by foxing the Aussie captain with a googly!
16th over: Ireland 118-8
Lorcan Tucker slams his bat down just in time to make contact with the ball hit by Hazlewood. With a clean bat swing, he rockets it out of sight and over the fence behind home plate. He stays focused at second base while receiving applause from teammates on third base as they cheer him on for a well-done job. Eventually, Hazlewood pitches another low ball right below where he swings, which he manages to put away – taking himself one step closer to victory for Ireland.
17th over: Ireland 136-8
Back at the crease, Starc began his final overs. He showed us both sides of himself this evening- wickets and leaked runs. Tuckers do a clever (and brave) scoop over Wade for 4, followed by another lofted drive after smashing out of getting hit from the opposite end. His anger is evident now. He begins to throw it about in a wild flurry; several wide deliveries are called up before Tucker finishes him off again with an incredible aerial drive well over cover point. Does Ireland dare to dream? They needed 44 off 19
18th over: Ireland 137-9
Josh Little now stands in the middle of Tucker, who faces three dots and then takes a single off the last ball. With two overs left, 43 runs need to come from 12 balls.
A mistake, and Josh Little was called out due to a combination of Mitch Marsh and Maxwell. That was it for them. Australia won by 42 runs and improved their Net Run Rate (NRR). It wasn’t an easy win, though – not when Ireland had been reduced to 25-5 at one point – but it was still crucial for the team to take home some points later on down the line. Ireland recovered quickly, mainly thanks to Lorcan Tucker, who made a daring 71*, followed closely by another 14 players who hit the board throughout the day.
