Netherlands chokes South Africa out of ICC Tournament. The Netherlands played an excellent game against South African cricket today, giving them their first defeat in any play. They were invited to bat and put up a total score of 158/4 before getting 8 runs from the opposing team’s innings, which gave them the ultimate victory.
Toss Updates:
South Africa has won the toss, and they have chosen to field.
Brief About Scores:
Netherlands 158/4 in 20 Overs
South Africa 145/4 in 20 Overs
Netherlands Innings:
1st Over Netherlands:
This field did not seem fast enough for Stephan Myburgh, who could get into a perfect placement before he swung his bat and smacked this short ball from Wayne Parnell out of bounds at deep square leg. In return for his successful hit, the left-handed pitcher conceded only one run off the other five balls he pitched. Netherlands (5/0)
2nd Over Netherlands:
If there were ever an athlete to take over the world, it would be Stephan Myburgh. In the 2014 T20 World Cup, he slammed an astonishing 50 against South Africa when they were up 5 wickets. Sadly, this was not enough because my compatriots fell just 6 runs short of their opponents. But today? There is no stopping him! The 38-year-old attacking batsman threw his entire body, including his bat, around for 3 boundaries in 1 over (all thanks to Kagiso Rabada).Netherlands (17/0)
3rd-4th Over Netherlands:
So far, Max O’Dowd has faced five deliveries in this innings, and Stephan Myburgh has done all the scoring. 19 balls and he already hit six boundaries while South Africa has bowled both sides of the wicket – either too full or too short. Wayne Parnell had been economical, but Lungi Ngidi gave a couple of hit-me deliveries down the leg side, and Myburgh made use of it. Netherlands (33/0)

5th-6th Over Netherlands:
The Dutch openers got off to a good start after Stephan Myburgh dominated the first five overs with boundaries from Max O’Dowd. It was the team’s best start in this tournament, and they need to keep it going, or they may fall short of the 160-run mark. The stage is set for them, so there should not be any problems, but we will have to wait to see what happens next! Netherlands (48/0)
7th-8th Over Netherlands:
Aiden Markram steps up with a new bat, and the first ball he faces is an off-spin delivery. He swings through the air, but it hits his bat just below where he wants to hit it. It starts turning away from him, which saves his opponent from being out on the first ball. Then he tries going for a reverse sweep – missing completely – and trying again when South Africa reviews it. However, because no replays show that it touched any part of his body besides the top side of his leg stump, the umpire’s call sticks around, and so does Max O’Dowd too! Netherlands (58/0)
9th Over Netherlands:
Aiden Markram gets the very first breakthrough for South Africa! His delivery was spun just right, so when Myburgh swung to play a shot – he hit it out of the park. However, Myburgh did not get enough height or power behind his shot. Unfortunately, it landed in front of one of New Zealand’s fielders. The 58-run stand has finally come to an end with Stephan Myburgh. Netherlands (61/1).
10th Over Netherlands:
Max O’Dowd let Stephan Myburgh set the pace until he got to the batting crease, but it is up to him now to make sure they do not fall behind early on. Keshav Maharaj started by bowling some short deliveries that were quickly dealt with. However, he finally got Max out of his comfort zone when he hit one out of bounds for a six-over deep mid-wicket. Netherlands (71/1)
11th Over Netherlands:
Tom Cooper had not been doing well in this tournament but collected 32 runs during the most recent match against Zimbabwe. He found some confidence after that at-bat and is starting strong for the Dutch team today. They need Markram not to give up so cheaply, or Cooper will launch him over deep mid-wicket on his first chance. He also catches one of Markram’s deliveries – a good day for Tom! Netherlands (81/1)
12th-13th Over Netherlands:
Keshav Maharaj lets go of a fuller-length delivery. Tom Cooper somehow managed to reverse sweep it for a six-over deep backward point. It was more like a reverse pull. Not too full, and the opener wanted to hit it toward extra cover. However, Rabada waited at wide long-off and saved his ground by jumping just before O’Dowd reached him. Unfortunately, O’Dowd departed after scoring 29 off 31 deliveries. Netherlands (98/2)
14th-15th Over Netherlands:
After powerful swings from Tom Cooper ended, the Netherlands needed to make up ground. The right-hander smashed 35 off 19 but was finally out on a leading edge, and QdK took a straightforward catch with his gloved hand. Earlier, he had slog-swapped Maharaj for four, but in the next over, he top-edged a slow ball and was out! Netherlands (112/3)
16th-17th-18th Over Netherlands:
Dutch batters struggled against the blistering pace of Anrich Nortje. The South African took his first Dutch wicket by knocking over Bas de Leede and giving him no chance with five quick deliveries to end off an earlier over. Netherlands (127/4)
19th Over Netherlands:
Kagiso Rabada earned another wicket for his team. His figures were 0/37 in three overs. Kyle Ackermann knocked one out over mid-on for a four before captain Scott Edwards knocked two back to the Dutchmen. Netherlands (143/4)
20th Over Netherlands:
This is an exceptional end of the innings for Colin Ackermann and Scott Edwards! South Africa will have to play exceptionally well to win this game, or they will be eliminated. They had only three fours and two sixes throughout 12 deliveries from Rabada and Ngidi, who leaked 72 runs between them. Netherlands (158/4)
South Africa Innings:
1st-2nd Over South Africa:
The Proteas need to put the Dutch team on their toes in the powerplays and allow Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma to use all six overs wisely if they want them to cross 7 runs per over. De Kock had already scored a four off Fred Klassen before Paul van Meekeren sent one short, which he powered down with an uppercut for a maximum. Likewise, Bavuma had been excellent last game against Pakistan; now, the pair will have to do everything possible if they want South Africa to come out victorious today. South Africa (16/0)
3rd Over South Africa:
Quinton de Kock hit an outside edge off the ball, which Fred Klaassen threw. This brought about a wicket for the Netherlands team, as Quinton had just reached 13 runs before this moment. South Africa (22/1)

4th-5th-6th Over South Africa:
They were knocking him down! Temba Bavuma was shuffling too much and got a boundary too. However, Paul van Meekeren is more intelligent than that and bowls one on the leg stump to send the South African captain back into the hut. Bavuma was out for a 20-run innings with plenty of time to bat. Well done, boys; you have just retaken control of this game. South Africa (39/2)
7th-8th-9th Over South Africa:
The pressure felt incredibly immense for South Africa. However, just before it could break them entirely, Rilee Rossouw scored a couple of fours off Roelof van der Merwe. So far, only ten runs have come from the first two overs. There are better batters in the middle order, and the Netherlands has to keep dismissing those players, or they will run away with this match too quickly. South Africa (63/2)
10th-11th-12th Over South Africa:
Aiden Markram and David Miller are settling in quickly; the required run rate is nothing to worry about anymore. The Dutch need only two more wickets to put South Africa under pressure. Brandon Glover manages to do so with a clever leg-cutter. At the same time, Rilee Rossouw scores 25 off 19 balls before being dismissed at deep mid-wicket. He had looked lively when he started his innings but did not play according to plan when faced with an easy delivery. South Africa (85/3)
13th-14th-15th Over South Africa:
Though South Africa lost four wickets, you would never guess it from how Heinrich Klaasen (a Dutch player) batted against Paul van Meekeren. Though it may seem like Van Meekeren has an awful game, he gave up a crucial six for South Africa, who now face an uphill battle in getting ahead of the Netherlands team. Van Meekeren is still out there on his last over. However, he had Fred Klaassen (also Dutch) come into a bowl instead as soon as possible – maybe things could be different? As it stands right now, though, it looks bleak for South African prospects – all thanks to Markram’s decision to have gone after a shot that was curving away from him; ending with him smashing an edge into short-cover and handing the Dutch team their third wicket. South Africa (111/4).

16th-17th Over South Africa:
This is what you want to do – hit the required length and perfect the technique of keeping your story flowing. Logan van Beek bowls an over now, and 3 runs are given up on a single day. He says it himself, saying South Africa does not have a low-quality order. We see 2 batters in 2 consecutive deliveries going out. With everything happening so far, we will be going into overs without batters left. One has caught them straight out of thin air! Roelof van der Merwe dived spectacularly at the ball before he caught Miller. Brandon Glover knew how to take wickets- perfect ones – and after delivering another short ball from inside off the line to David Miller, who drove him uppishly towards the point, both of them were disappointed when Roelf gathered up a stunner catch. South Africa (118/6)
18th-19th-20th Over South Africa:
No, wait! Here comes Keshav Maharaj, and here comes the strike of his bat. However, what does he do? He goes for a six with only one leg left to stand on! Is there enough time left? No, there is not. As soon as his foot hit the ground after smashing it out of the park, Heinrich Klaasen managed to take him down while trying to complete a fantastic catch, and so we say goodbye, goodbye South Africa; you will never be back in another semi-final of ICC T20 World Cup or any other world tournament ever again. South Africa (145/4)
Conclusion:
The Netherlands secured an unexpected victory against South Africa, who lost their spot in the semi-final games. India will move on to the next round, and Bangladesh or Pakistan will advance from Group 2. It was a tough defeat for South African players – they threw away what could have been an easy victory by failing to score enough runs. The Dutch team had incredible performances, with both bowlers and batters coming up big.
