Netherlands vs Zimbabwe Highlights, World Cup 2022
The Netherlands beat Zimbabwe by 5 Wickets in the T20 World Cup 2022. Max ODowd scored 52 runs in his inning.
Zimbabwe vs Netherlands Highlights, T20 WC 2022, 34th Match – Zimbabwe had to play a must-win game against the Netherlands to remain in contention for the Semi-finals of the Super 12 Group 2. Facing an opponent who had beaten Pakistan with three wickets lost during Powerplay and without creating any significant partnerships necessary to mend those losses, they decided to bat first. Still, they were restricted to 117 runs all out.
Losing 3 of their first 4 games in the T20 World Cup to Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, the Netherlands became the first team to be eliminated from contention for the Finals.
Zimbabwe is still running for the semifinals thanks to their one-run victory over Pakistan and a wash-out match against South Africa. If that is to remain true – they will need a victory against Nederlands, which they face on Wednesday night.
Zimbabwe decided to bat first after winning the toss.
Zimbabwe Batting:
1st Over Zimbabwe:
Wesley Madhevere covers the striker’s side of the pitch. Fred Klaassen tosses in a new ball. And so it begins at Adelaide Oval; three runs and no wickets lost.
2nd Over Zimbabwe:
Paul van Meekeren strikes the first wicket of the game- Wesley Madhevere was clean bowled! Zimbabwe is at 13/1 after two overs.
3rd Over Zimbabwe:
Many hits have been thrown, and balls have been sent out already. Zimbabwe is playing it safe for the most part. Fred Klaassen’s second over cost just one run. 14/1 after three overs of play.
4th Over Zimbabwe:
The second wicket in this intense Powerplay! In comes Brandon Glover, bowling for Zimbabwe. He delivers a maiden over and takes out the captain – Craig Ervine departs! Zimbabwe is now 14/2 after 4 overs.
5th Over Zimbabwe:
Although neither side has had much success against the other in previous games, the Dutch have taken advantage of Zimbabwe’s weaknesses in this most recent game. As it currently stands at 18-2 after five overs, both sides still need to work hard for victory.
6th Over Zimbabwe:
After two consecutive drops and a close lbw, Brandon Glover managed to take the wicket of Regis Chakabva. At the end of the first 6 overs, Zimbabwe looked vulnerable, with 20 runs being scored.
7th Over Zimbabwe:
Sean Williams flicks the first ball of his over down to fine leg for four before delivering a wide delivery. He gets another three runs off it, bringing him up to ten runs in total so far this innings.
8th Over Zimbabwe:
The Netherlands looked well on course for another economical over from Logan van Beek when Sean Williams found the gap between deep-midwicket and long-off for six runs – putting them at 36 for three after eight overs
9th Over Zimbabwe:
Leading into this match, Sikandar Raza has outscored all of his teammates with 145 runs off 6 innings. Outscoring every teammate in the batting format for this year too. With him scoring back-to-back boundaries within the 9th over from his bat to make it 50/3 at the loss of 3 wickets – there was a sense of relief amongst them. Fifty for Zimbabwe at a loss of three wickets.
10th Over Zimbabwe:
Scott Edwards brought up his fifth bowler, Bas de Leede, into the attack just 3 overs after he had taken out the fourth one. The Dutch players seemed more at ease than their opponents halfway through the first inning at 53/3.
11th Over Zimbabwe:
Some left-arm orthodox spin speed. Left-handed batsman Sean Williams picked the ball with a sweep to the right of the backward point. Eight runs were scored that over, and Zimbabwe was 62/3 after 11 overs.
12th & 13th Over Zimbabwe:
They had back-to-back wickets for the Dutch. Paul van Meekeren strikes Sean Williams, then Logan van Beek also gets Milton Shumba soon after – Zimbabwe is sinking at 78/5.
14th Over Zimbabwe:
Sikandar Raza smacks the ball sweetly. He takes on a length ball from Brandon Glover and dispatches it easily over deep midwicket. The resounding noise had taken up the entire grounds of Adelaide Oval. He follows it with an effortless lofted shot over extra cover for four runs – coming off his 14th over in this game – 92/5
15th Over Zimbabwe:
This was an excellent opportunity for the Netherlands. Magnificent catch by Fred Klaassen. Sikandar Raza comes out of his crease at 40 off 24 runs. Excellent over this from Bas de Leede. Zimbabwe, 95/6 after 15 overs
16th Over Zimbabwe:
Paul van Meekeren made a three-for on the final ball of his spell. A cross-seamer that got an inside edge before hitting Ryan Burl for six. It’s safe to say Zimbabwe is struggling now – they’re 98/7 after 16 overs.
17th Over Zimbabwe:
Zimbabwe lost their 100th run as soon as they reached it, so they’re even more desperate than before. They need to win today or be eliminated from the competition. With only a few minutes left, Luke Jongwe falls- no one else can carry the weight of this team anymore.
18th Over Zimbabwe:
Fred Klaassen knew there was nothing Richard Ngarava could do but try to smack a ball at the leg-side, aiming for the deep midwicket region from which he had hit a six before in the over. He pitched a slow one wide outside off, tempting him to take it, so he did. With that ninth wicket out, Klaassen got his first wicket of the match. The score stands at 111 for 9 after 18 overs for Zimbabwe.
19th Over Zimbabwe:
Zimbabwe has been plain disappointing in this match. They could not build any partnerships after they lost three early wickets in the first ten overs, and the lower middle order couldn’t make up for the lack of control when batting because of their poor shots being selected. As a result, Zimbabwe managed only 116 runs with only six balls left in the match.
20th & End of Innings Zimbabwe:
Logan van Beek picks up Blessing Muzarabani’s bat and throws it down angrily when he realizes that Zimbabwe has been all out 117.
The Beginnings of the Hunt, Netherlands vs Zimbabwe:
1st Over Netherlands:
Our Dutch opener Max ODowd and second-in-command Stephen Myburgh opened up for the team’s chase of 117 runs. They seemed quite confident on the field, but all eyes were still waiting for an opportunity to watch them bat.
2nd Over Netherlands:
Stephan Myburgh launches it high. He hits another ball over the boundary line for six! After two overs, we’re thirteen for zero.
3rd Over Netherlands:
A full-length delivery from Chatara and Max ODowd finds the narrow gap that was created. 17/0 after 3 overs.
4th Over Netherlands:
The first ball from Blessing Muzarabani resulted in a wicket – Stephan Myburgh found himself stumped after attempting to take the ball wide of the point. Zimbabwe starts at 18/1, with four overs gone.
5th Over Netherlands:
Recently, the Netherlands has had a rather high boundary conversion rate from short deliveries outside off. Tendai Chatara offered Max ODowd another, which wasn’t good this time. 7 runs came off that ball; 25/1.
6th Over Netherlands:
Tom Cooper amassed 10 runs off that last over from Blessing Muzarabani. Cutting to the left side of the field – 4 marks, a pull through mid-wicket-6 points. Netherlands 35/1.
7th & 8th Over Netherlands:
Max ODowd looked at ease and walked down to hit through square leg for four runs over Ngarava’s head, grabbing his fourth boundary for the Netherlands up until this point in their innings – 47/1 after eight overs.
9th Over Netherlands:
Fifty-one runs have been scored for the Netherlands so far. Six runs came off of Sikandar Raza, who hit six singles. They’re not in any rush at all, are they? Fifty-three runs from nine overs; fifty-five needed from sixty-six deliveries left.
10th Over Netherlands:
Max ODowd pitches one up over the cover-point boundary for six. Tom Cooper then hits a reverse-paddle shot to end the 10th over with a four. The score is 67/1 halfway through.
11th Over Netherlands:
10 runs were saved off Blessing Muzarabani’s bowling. The pacer had only conceded 7 in his first two, which made life hard for the set pair in the middle to find boundaries in his third. But considering the size of this ground and its long dimensions, 3s and 2s were enough to do the job for the Netherlands at 77/1 after 11 overs.
12th Over Netherlands:
Max ODowd managed to play a well-timed shot for six off Tendai Chatara’s first ball, but this does little to sway the momentum. After an initial successful over from Chatora, Max ODowd is forced back onto defense again. Nevertheless, he still manages to make it through twelve balls before being called out. It doesn’t seem as if there are any hopes of a comeback from Zimbabwe at this point; they’re down by 83 runs after just twelve overs.
13th Over Netherlands:
Luke Jongwe broke through the solid 73-run partnership between Cooper and ODowd. Wesley Madhevere injured his left ankle as he caught a ball deep in the outfield, while Zimbabwe was 91/2 after 13 overs. 27 were needed off 42 deliveries
14th Over Netherlands:
Colin Ackermann tries to loft the ball over the inner circle but misses, leaving him at 92-3 after 14 overs. Now they need 26 runs in 36 balls.
15th Over Netherlands:
What a way to end! Three wides, three sixes. 17 runs off of it. 50 for Max ODowd. 109/3. Nine are needed from the last 5 overs to win this game.
16th Over Netherlands:
Max ODowd found Milton Shumba at the deep point after making it to his fifty. The Netherlands had lost a fourth player but only needed three more points to push Zimbabwe out of the 4th place contention.
17th Over Netherlands:
The Dutch are just one wicket away from victory. However, Zimbabwe won’t give up so easily- still trailing by five runs with only 18 balls remaining in the innings.
End of Innings, Netherlands vs Zimbabwe Highlights WC 2022:
It finally happened. The Dutch had two points in the Super 12 after their five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe! It was touch and go there for a bit toward the end. Still, the orange team saved themselves from the worst possible outcome of being eliminated from contention for semifinal spots. With just one match left for Group 2 teams today – India vs. Bangladesh – it looks like there will be only four teams in the semifinals, without even including Zimbabwe, who are practically disqualified from contention.
